What is a controlled, independent, dependent and categorical variable?

Could I have some examples as well please :)What is a controlled, independent, dependent and categorical variable?
A control group goes through all the steps of an experiment but lacks the factor, or is not exposed to the factor, being tested. Inother words, sample that goes through all the steps of an experiment but does not contain the variable being tested.

Some groups receive a treatment (experimental), while other groups receive no treatment (control). To ensure that the outcome due to the experimental variable (independent variable), all other conditions between the groups in the experiment are identical. The result is called response variable (dependent variable) because it is due to the experimental treatment.
