What is a categoric, control, independent, dependent, continious variables?

and any others u know. please! its for physics unit 1 gcse revision :D

thankyou so much! What is a categoric, control, independent, dependent, continious variables?
LEST START WITH THIS FORMAL INTRO-DEFINITION:

A variable is an attribute of a physical or an abstract system which may change its value while it is under observation. Examples include the height of a child, the temperature across a state, or the input to a function. This concept is relevant to and applied to almost all areas of mathematics, science and engineering.

In mathematics and computer science, a variable is usually represented by one or more words or symbols, such as ';time'; or x. These abstractions are often assigned definite values later in the equation or program, but unknowns are often integral to an interface even without such a value.

In the physical sciences and engineering, a variable is a quantity whose value may vary over the course of an experiment (including simulations), across samples, or during the operation of a system.

In modeling, variables are distinct from parameters, although what is a variable in one context may be a parameter in another.

In applied statistics, a variable is a measurable factor, characteristic, or attribute of an individual or a system 鈥?in other words, something that might be expected to vary over time or between individuals. Random variables are an idealization of this in mathematical statistics, where they are defined as measurable functions from a probability space to a measurable space.

TYPES:

In causal models, a distinction is made between ';independent variables'; and ';dependent variables';, the latter being expected to vary in value in response to changes in the former. In other words, an independent variable is presumed to potentially affect a dependent one. In experiments, independent variables include factors that can be altered or chosen by the researcher independent of other factors.

For example, in an experiment to test whether or not the boiling point of water changes with altitude, the altitude is under direct control and is the independent variable, and the boiling point is presumed to depend upon it and is therefore the dependent variable.

STATIC OR CATEGORIC VARIABLE:

In computer programming, static variables data value persists for the life of the running process and typically have a broader scope than other variables. Their values may be set at run-time or may change subtly during program execution. The terminology is C and C++ based, but also used in many derived programming languages, in languages with different heritage the same concept may instead be called global variables.

CONTINUOUS VARIABLE:

In quantitative research there are two broad types of variable: discrete and continuous. A continuous variable is one for which a subject or observation takes a value from an interval of real numbers. For example, if age can be measured precisely enough it takes any value from 0 upwards.

ANSWERWhat is a categoric, control, independent, dependent, continious variables?
Categoric is the data which can be put in categories like smal, medium, very bi , eye colour etc...

control is the variale tht doesnt change during nthe whole experiment

independent means the variable that u are going to chand or the thing in the experiment that u are changing or increasing durin the expeiment

dependent is the variable is the variable tht u are measuring during the experiment

continous is the variable that has a numeric value like height it is continous, like wieght etc...

u might need these also according to me :

precision is the smallest value on the scale

thats all i can remember :)
Catagoric - Think of a Cat holding a label (sounds stupid i know but it works)

Independent is the thing you change

Dependend DEPENDS on the independednt thats the thing you keep the dame but may change as you change the independent

Continuos is comething that is a number like 6.78543 or even as asimple as 3.1

Well i THINK thats right (thats how i know it annd my exams are soon so i hope it is XD)

Good luck
no idea mate good luck with your exam
